Desert Sage Elementary’s list of specials includes P.E., Art, Music and Chorus, Band, and Mandarin. Typically, students love specials because they provide a break from their regular schedule. But Specials are not just fun; they support student learning as well as have their own benefits.
- Art supports math skills, fosters creativity, and helps students develop critical thinking
- Band teaches teamwork, time management, discipline and focus
- Chorus builds collaborative skills and confidence.
- Mandarin (foreign language) enhances cognitive skills, problem-solving and creates cultural awareness
- Music gives students an increased vocabulary, helps memory retention and motor skills
- Physical education (P.E.) helps students with improved mental health, and social skills and teaches healthy lifestyle habits
